History
Many individuals have to deal with the effects of healthcare inadequacies on a daily basis. The root source of these inadequacies are access disparities, which are fueled by “various factors such as socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, geographic location, and immigration status” (Williamson, 2024, p. 15). So, what exactly is an access disparity within the Healthcare system? “Healthcare access disparities refer to the unequal distribution of healthcare services and resources among different populations, leading to differential access to quality care” (Williamson, 2024, p. 15). Without access to proper healthcare and treatments, these individuals do not have the same quality of life as others who have open access. As well, “higher rates of chronic conditions experienced by minority individuals contribute to a decreased life expectancy compared to their white counterparts” (United Way NCA, 2024).
